ABOUT OUR WALKS

Saturday Walks
These are normally around 7 to 8 miles, unless a greater distance is stated, and are taken at a steady pace. On some Saturdays a separate 'D' walk is also arranged.
‘D’ Walks
On some Saturdays, and on most Sunday Coach Trips, a 'D' walk will also be offered. These will be round about 5 miles, with very little ascent, and are taken at a leisurely pace.
Sunday ‘A’ Walks
Usually strenuous full day walks around 13 to 17 miles. (Note: 'A' walks may be subject to change depending on the availability of transport).
Sunday ‘B’ Walks
Less strenuous, no more than 12 miles but typically around 9 to 11 miles. Any ‘B’ Walks shown on other days of the week will be of similar length.
Sunday ‘C’ Walks
Gentle walks, not more than 8 miles.
Coach Outings

Coach Outings leave from Leeds Coach Station, New York Street (behind Central Bus Station). A coach outing may combine ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ walks, and may also be joined by members who simply wish to enjoy a day out in the town or area being visited. Coaches will return from the destination at the times shown.

Members may reserve places by sending the full payment to Jim & Joan Armstrong (Tel: 0113 255 3591), no later than the Monday before departure, and stating where they wish to board the coach (see Pick Up Points below). Other members will be carried on a & first come, first served" basis and may board en route if the coach is not full, but seats cannot be saved for those who have not paid in advance.

Bookings will only be accepted from the opening date shown in the syllabus.

Booking will usually open up to six weeks before the event (often on the date of the previous coach trip). After the first three weeks, any unfilled places will be advertised on our Meetup website to maximise revenue and help to secure the future of our coach programmes, so members are advised to book early to ensure a place.

Car Rambles

Most car rambles in this syllabus are shown as meeting at the starting point of the walk. Times shown are the intended time to start walking.

Members are free to make their own arrangements to car share but drivers are encouraged to liaise with the walk leader to offer any spare places so we can minimise the number of cars used. This will reduce the cost per head and avoid problems where space at the starting point is limited. Most car rambles require advance booking so if you need a lift please let the leader know so that arrangements can be made.

Slide Shows

Shows are held in the Small Hall, St Columba’s Church, Otley Road, Headingley at 1:30pm (please note new time).

DO I NEED TO BOOK IN ADVANCE?

The majority of walks no longer require members to book in advance. All exceptions are specified in the individual walk entries and apply to the following:-

RISK OF CHANGES TO WALKS

Sometimes walks have to be cancelled or changed at short notice for a number of reasons, for example rail or bus timetable changes, extreme weather, ground conditions, illness of leader etc. In particular, rail or bus strikes could cause the walk to be abandoned.

For walks where members have been asked to book in advance, the leaders will try to let you know if the walk has to be changed or cancelled. On other walks you can just turn up on the day but it is advisable to check with the leader beforehand that the walk is still going ahead as advertised.

MEETUP WALKS
An increased number of club walks will be posted on Meetup and all are clearly marked in the syllabus under the relevant walk entry. Members should book in advance as follows:-
For ‘A’ Walks
As all regular A Party walkers are already Meetup members, these walks will continue to be booked via the Meetup website in line with recent practice, but anyone else who wishes to come should notify the leader to book a place.
For all other walks
Apart from the walk leader there is no requirement for any other walkers to become members of the Meetup group and they should book by contacting the leader direct in the normal way. On all these walks a limited number of places will be open to Meetup members in addition to our own club members who have booked with the leader.

SUNDAY COACH TRIP PICK UP POINTS

(Different stops may apply for Club Weekends)

Due to road changes in central Leeds, coaches can no longer pick up or set down in King Street. All Sunday coach trips will now pick up and set down at Leeds Coach Station instead, which is behind the main concourse on the Central Bus Station. (Blue Sky may have their own coach excursions leaving from here at a similar time so please check you are boarding the correct coach).

All members MUST let Jim & Joan Armstrong know intended pick up point when booking.
